We are a managed community-based setting promoting the Family-based therapy model of care and serving DC. We believe that every beneficiary who walks into our space deserves access to a high-quality, nurturing and active life environment where they can thrive mentally, socially, and creatively.
Position overview
We see a dynamic, community-centered Family & Community Outreach Coordinator to serve as the bridge between our service philosophy community, families and neighborhoods in our catchment. This role combines strategic communications and marketing with on-the-ground recruitment, relationship-building, and family engagement support. The ideal candidate brings family organizing skills, role change/role equity mentoring, storytelling instincts, social media fluency, and the interpersonal warmth to represent our philosophy rooted in turn-taking authentically in physical, digital and neighborhood settings.
Key responsibilities
Family Recruitment & Enrollment Outreach
- Saint Charles Lwanga America Center's priority areas including family circle setting, community events, recreational centers, parks, daycares, and high-traffic locations to generate qualified leads according to the recruitment plan
- Engage prospective families in compelling conversations about our community-based initiatives, community culture, and dialogue model; serve as an on-brand ambassador
- Plan exhibitions, community-based music/dance/drama events, staff pop-up tables, dismissal windows, and neighborhood events; distribute materials and collect potential beneficiary interest and contact information end to end
- Build relationships with local partners including libraries, daycares, rec centers, and faith and community organizations to keep our visibility between events
- Guide beneficiaries through our FCS process and provide on-the-spot application support to convert interest into submissions
- Conduct external phone and text follow-up to confirm lottery submissions, verify our ranking, and nurture leads through to enrollment
- Track contacts and conversions against recruitment targets; report results regularly to inform strategy; use exit survey outcomes and testimonials to address common family questions
Communications & Marketing
- In partnership with the CEO, Family Engagement & Community Partnerships, implement our communications strategy across digital and print channels
- Oversee our social media accounts; develop content strategies and monitor engagement to grow our digital presence
- Create, update, and manage content for the website and calendars to ensure it is current, engaging, and reflective of our mission
- Develop and distribute print and online publications including e-blasts, newsletters, brochures, annual reports, appeal letters, and marketing materials
- Coordinate production of high-quality marketing materials, ensuring brand consistency and alignment with our visual identity
- Monitor and respond to posts on family engagement tools; collect, analyze, and report on communications and outreach metrics to inform ongoing strategy
- Ensure compliance with the DC Open Meetings Act and all meeting needs such as the occupancy laws
Community Engagement
- Serve as primary point of contact for families regarding extended day and Friday studio happy family day-related communication, including enrollment, scheduling, and club offerings
- Communicate club offerings, sign-ups, and schedule changes clearly and proactively ahead of each cycle
- Communicate proactively with families through newsletters, updates, and direct outreach in collaboration with the CEO, Family Engagement & Community Partnerships
- Collaborate with the communications team to promote and celebrate Friday studio happy family day activities via social media and the weekly newsletter
- Maintain a welcoming, responsive presence during admission and program transitions
- Support the CEO, Family Engagement & Community Partnerships in coordinating family-facing events, orientations, and engagement initiatives tied to extended day and Global Studio Friday
Other Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the planning and execution of family information sessions, space readiness workshops, and community recruitment events
- Collaborate across teams to identify and elevate our programs, partnerships, and successes through multiple communication channels
- Provide regular feedback to school leadership to inform ongoing refinement of the recruitment and engagement plan
- Other related duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional experience
- Strong writing, proofreading, and editing skills; an excellent storyteller with knowledge of social media platforms and content strategy best practices
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and web-based applications
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse families and communities with warmth and authenticity; comfortable working independently and collaboratively
- Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously; ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise discretion in sensitive conversations
- Must meet all employment requirements including a satisfactory background check
Preferred Qualifications
Education/Training:
- Master’s degree in public health, education, social work or psychology, or equivalent degree.
- CHES, MCHES, Teaching License, Behavior Therapy, Licensed in DMC as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C), Professional Counselor (LCPC) as a Psychologist, Licensed Independent Social Worker Clinical, or Licensed Professional Counselor
Experience:
(5) years of supervisory experience conducting diagnostic evaluations, providing individual and family therapy and preparing activity plans.
- Any of DMV Board-approved supervisory level role is preferred
- LCSW-C or LCPC licensure is preferred, but not required.
- Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required
Other Requirements:
- Has led teams of other managers
- Evening coverage on one evening require
- Bilingual in English and Spanish or Amharic strongly preferred
- Familiarity with Northeast DC communities, schools, and family networks
- Experience working with diverse families in DC charter or urban education settings; high tolerance for ambiguity during fast-moving recruitment seasons
