Broader Narrative:
Saint Charles Lwanga Resource Learning Center (SCLRLC):
The aim is to bridge educational gaps and fostering resilience. A center where people drop-in to study, play, engage in music, dance, drama and gain fulness out of life. The center is also ideal for people who need to be away from the phone, computer and electronic devices for a period. We are the pioneers of Negotiated Periodic Weaning (NPW) whose theory of change is that people take up initiatives once they have figured out incentives. We established this space as part of the community-based addiction remedies. SCLRLC is a project born
from a deep-seated commitment to addressing the profound educational
disparities that limit the potential of underserved youth. Our founder, Tom
Rogers Muyunga-Mukasa, recognized that many students were falling through the
cracks due to a lack of mentors trained to identify disempowering traits that affect achievement of a portrait of a graduand across education grades. A lack of access to empowering learning tools and mentorship and change in those who are provided learning opportunities led to the idea of the center. Inspired by the unwavering resilience of individuals who strive for knowledge
despite systemic barriers, the center was established to provide a sanctuary
for learning and digital empowerment. We believe that potential is universal,
but opportunity is not. SCLRLC serves as a beacon of community resilience,
transforming these gaps into bridges for future success by providing a
structured environment for digital literacy and academic support.
Books Without Borders (BWB):
This project has been subsumed under Saint Charles Lwanga America Center. BWB has been in existence since 2012 as a stand alone project. Now that we have a registered NPO, we are merging all other projects under this roof.
One Health Initiatives (OHI):
Previously the founder initiated health promotion projects and interventions of physical and mental health significance. They ranged from smoking cessation advocacy; diabetes care and management; TB/HIV/Malaria/Hepatitis prevention; universal health coverage advocacy; Disability and Disorders; Maternal, Child, Adolescent, Adult and Senior (MCAAS) health campaigns; and partnering with organizations ensuring a safer, cleaner, and revitalized environment.
Planned and Strategic Social Transformation Community Outreach (PSSTCO):
The activities under here range from Literacy/Numeracy After School classes; Grant-writing, resource mobilization; Information, Education and Communication (IEC) synthesis and dissemination to address knowledge gaps which affect quality of life; and working with communities to establish a critical mass of enablers of quality living.
Carbon-Foot Print Remedies and Eco-Sustainability (CFPRES):
We mobilize and work with communities to ensure reduction and eventual Net-Zero world as well as Zero-pollution.
Global Connect Through Placement Internships (GCTPI):
We work with education institutions to connect scholars and interns with areas they can do research work or internships leading to fulfilment of education qualifications or other goals.
Knowledge Exchange Hub (KEH):
The KEH hub goal is to promote entrepreneurship, social transformation, cultural expression and other forms of activities increasing knowledge and skills leveraging better life outcomes.
Overall Outcome:
The end-goal is an inspiring society and an individual who can engage in making their communities entities that prevent disease, promote health and prolong life centering collective care, quality life experiences, dignity, access, justice and accountability.
